Childcare and education, all in one place.

Just down the street from Parkmerced is the perfect resident perk for parents. The Montessori Children’s Center, which is located at 80 Juan Batista Circle, offers the community a convenient place for children to learn and grow.

The center is focused on letting a child’s nature guide them, helping children develop and nurture their intrinsic love of learning, independence and sense of community. The center got its start in 1976 when it was located where the SFSU Wellness center is now.

The center is run by directors Jean Nugent and Judith Flynn, who received extensive experience in the Montessori approach in London. When they moved to the San Francisco area, they met Claude Scovill, who had the vision to connect education and childcare with community.

The school is open to children 2 to 6 and Parkmerced children are given preference. Full and half-day programs are available, as well as childcare before and after traditional school hours. Roughly one-quarter of the students live at Parkmerced.

Strict COVID protocols are followed at the center, including asking children to be masked, maintaining social distancing, and proper handwashing and sanitation practices. Adults need to show proof of vaccination and remain masked during their visit.

Most of the staff have worked at the Montessori Children’s Center for at least 15 years. Each is certified in Childhood Education, and two are Montessori Certified. The staff-to-child ratio is 1:5.

For more information about enrollment, please call the center at 415-333-4410 or email at jafmcc@aol.com.
