ACADEMY OF ART
Parkmerced, truly is a work of art.
Parkmerced and the Academy of Art University have embarked on an ambitious new art project to support and educate local artists in the community. This is part of our ongoing commitment to support local businesses, education and the arts. A group of artistically talented students from the academy have begun to plan and design a new mural in the Block 13 Courtyard. Which is also becoming known as The Living Room at The Village.
The goal is to translate the branding and vision of the Parkmerced Vision into a stunning new mural that coincides with the personas of one Parkmerced. The project is led by Professor David Burke (dburk.org) who has assembled a diverse group of students to work on the design that is inspired by their diverse backgrounds, experiences and a creative brief.
The goal is to create a cohesive work of art that captures different perspectives from around the world as well as Parkmerced’s diversity as a community (concept shown). The students are looking to capture the energy and vibrant personality of San Francisco and all that brings us together to create a sense of place and belonging.
The students began work Sept. 13, working virtually on the new mural project. The final design will be submitted for approval by the end of October and the in-person painting phase will go through mid-December.
