With the women’s soccer season just around the corner, Maximus and the San Francisco Nighthawks have announced an exciting new partnership. Beginning May 24, the Nighthawks will be calling Parkmerced their new home for the summer.

The players, who come from all over the world, are excited about staying at the property, which is close to where the team has historically practiced at San Francisco State University. Parkmerced’s natural setting, sense of community and homey touches will allow the Nighthawks to enjoy a home away from home that allows for far more independence than the usual host family stays. In fact, the team lovingly refers to Parkmerced as the International House of Nighthawks.

“Players come from all over the world – Denmark, England – another one plays on a professional team in Italy. She will join the Nighthawks for the summer season as soon as Italy’s season is over,” says General Manager Jill Lounsbury. “It is a highly respected team for Roma in Italy. it is a huge deal she is playing for them and then coming to play on our team.”

The San Francisco Nighthawks compete in the Women’s Premier Soccer League, the second tier of women’s soccer in the U.S. and Canada. There is also a home game scheduled to be played at the historic Kezar Stadium in Golden Gate Park.

Residents and members of the community will be able to enjoy several events planned by the club, including:

  • Weeklong Camp in June for two age groups: 7-14 and 14+

  • Weekly soccer classes until August for both age groups. Parents can also arrange private lessons with the players.

  • Viewing parties for upcoming games through the summer.

  • Speaking opportunities to address equality, leadership in sports, etc. at local businesses and community organizations.

The team also hopes residents will come to the games which will allow fans (socially distanced). More information on tickets and a complete schedule can be found on the Nighthawk’s website: https://www.sfnighthawks.com.
